Get Rid of those Tired Eyes

We’ve all been there, late nights, long hours and lack of sleep. Make-up can do most of the job, however those pesky droopy eyes always seem to be the giveaway.

So how can we avoid those ‘You look tired’ or ‘late night?’ comments over the water cooler. We spoke to beauty experts to get the low down.

Natural Fix

  • The eyes shut exercise

The quickest natural way to do it is to apparently shut your eyes and squeeze them tightly, then open them as quick and wide as possible, repeat until the eyes begin to water. This supposedly will make your eyes brighter and feel fresher.

  • Rosewater

Dip two cotton balls in cold rose water them lie down and place the wet cotton balls over your closed eyelids. Leave them on your eyes for 10-15 minutes. It’s perfect for dark circles and brilliant at reducing any redness.

  • Cucumber

Believe it or not, it actually does something! Cucumbers have a subtle, mild, skin lightening effect. This is why cucumber on the eyes is so often used for dark circles. On top of this the ascorbic acid and caffeic acid also brings down the water retention in eyes, reducing swelling and puffiness.

Company The Ordinary has a solution. The brand that is fast taking over blogger lives’ has produced a Caffeine fix eye solution which can be applied day, night or before a big meeting when you need to look alert. For only £13-£15 its an absolute steal too.

If you’ve got a bit more money in your pocket Murad’s renewing eye cream uses retinol combined with powerul peptides that help strengthen the paper-thin skin around your eyes. For £68 though you may have to dig deep.

Okay now this is an instant fix which will completely open your eyes up and we love it here. You remember the big white eyeliner craze when women would dramatically line the inside of their eyes white to make them appear bigger? Think how much more sense it would make instead for a nude liner, that doesn’t look so obviously made up and blends into your actual eye. Hard to find but can make a big difference, get yours now from NYX.

Surgical fix

Vicky Grammatikopoulou who runs Vie Aesthetics advises a Tear Trough treatment.

She said: “Droopy eye lids, dark circles and “hollow” tear troughs are usually a result of the ageing process, but they can also appear in younger people due to genetic predisposition or a variety of lifestyle and environmental factors, such as excessive sun damage.  You may find that their appearance can make the face look tired, sad and older.

“The reason that the area under the eyes becomes darker and more hollow is increased collagen loss in the upper part of the cheeks and the upper corners of the face. As these structures lose volume, the area under the eyes (called the tear trough) loses its support and dark circles appear as the blood supply under the skin becomes more visible.

“At Vie Aesthetics, we can correct this successfully through Tear Trough Treatment. Injections of Hyaluronic Acid filler are used to restore the volume and to give the under- eye and the tear trough area a smoother, fuller, fresher and younger appearance. In our clinic we use only the higher end, newest generation, and officially approved fillers from reputable companies.

“The type of filler will be decided during the initial free consultation and after your discussion with our specialist doctor. The filler is pre-mixed with an anaesthetic and the procedure is fairly pain free and the effects last up to 12 months and in many cases even longer.
